Legendary Poet And Activist Dr. Maya Angelou Dies At 86

Award-winning author, poet, educator, and activist Dr. Maya Angelou died on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.

Her literary agent, Helen Brann, said she died at her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Wake Forest University, where she served as Reynolds Professor of American Studies, issued a statement on Wednesday:

“Dr. Angelou was a national treasure whose life and teachings inspired millions around the world, including countless students, faculty, and staff at Wake Forest, where she served as Reynolds Professor of American Studies since 1982. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Angelou’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

It can be noted that Dr. Maya Angelou met and worked with Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
