Jumoke Akindele
Members of the Ondo State, Nigeria House of Assembly on Tuesday elected its first female speaker, Ms. Jumoke Akindele, representing Okitipupa constituency 2 in the Southern Senatorial district of the State.
Akindele earned 13 votes during the poll at the State House of Assembly chamber over Aladeitan; 9 and Akinkurolere; 0 after the former speaker, Mr Samuel Adesina, passed away.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr Dare Emiola, representing Akoko South-West constituency 1, declared Akindele the winner.
Akindele expressed her joyful emotions by crying and stated that she was overwhelmed to be the first female speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly. She added that her leadership style will be transparent, accountable, fair, accommodating, and loyal.
Akindele, as speaker, terminated all ad-hoc and standing committees and ordered the members of such committees to hand over official items belonging to the assembly to the clerk within 24 hours.
Akindele is a legal practitioner.
