Nigerian Government Responds to Derogatory Statement By Senator Cruz Regarding Nigerians

Nigerians Saving Nigerians:

Senator Ted Cruz

Senator Ted Cruz stated to a Houston rally on Monday, “You know the Nigerian email scammers? They’ve been a lot less active lately, because they’ve all been hired to run the Obamacare websites.”

Senator Cruz’s spokesperson told KTRK the senator was just making a joke based on a common email scam and meant no offense.

Nigerian Ambassador to the U.S. Prof. Ade Adefuye told the Daily News by phone from his office in Nigeria, “The comment was totally uncalled for,” “Nigerians feel insulted by that sort of comment”.

He further stated that the embassy has received calls from Nigerian residents in the United States of America and from other African embassies appalled by the perceived cultural insensitivity.

The Nigerian government has “nothing to do with Obamacare,” the Ambassador added.

Professor Adefuye has mailed a letter to Senator Cruz’s Capitol Hill office, demanding the junior Republican senator from Texas apologize for the comment.

He is optimistic Cruz will be a “gentleman” and comply.
