President Goodluck Jonathan fired nine ministers with immediate effect during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria.

The dismissed ministers are the minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, minister of Environment, Hajia Hadiza Mailafia, minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyat Rufai, minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Ama Pepple, minister of Science and Technology, Professor Ita Ewa, minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, minister of State for Defence, Mrs. Erelu Olusola Obada, minister of State for Power, Hajia Zainab Kuchi, and the minister of State for Agriculture, Alhaji Bukar Tijani.
