Yobe and Borno National Youth Service Corps Members Transferred to New Camps

The Federal Government yesterday in Abuja affirmed its commitment to ensure the safety of corps members deployed to any part of the country.

Information Minister Labaran Maku gave assurance while briefing newsmen after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa. Maku reassured the corps members safety.

Also yesterday, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) fixed another date for all prospective 2012 Batch B corp members posted to Yobe and Borno states.

A statement by the Director General of the scheme, Brigadier General Nnamdi Okore-Affiah, said the affected corps members would resume camp for their orientation exercise on the Thursday 26th July-Thursday 16th August, 2012.

The statement stated that camp program for corps members posted to Yobe state would hold at Nasarawa State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Keffi while those posted to Borno state would hold their camp at Benue State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Wanume, Tarka LGA.

So what happens to the corpers after the orientation camp? Will they remain in Nassarawa and Benue States or be sent back to Yobe and Borno? Would Labaran Maku have allowed his son to serve in Yobe or Borno States? And where in those states are those corpers expected to serve? Is it in the same schools that is being targeted by the dreaded Islamic sect? Why put the life of these youths in such grave danger? Why?

  2. K says:

The NYSC program should be scrapped. Period. It is a mere charade that has been costing the lives of youths from the Southern part of the country. Every facet of the Nigerian life deepens the dis-unity of the country, this program has not and cannot unite the nation.

Has anyone in NYSC bothered to carry out a survey on the percentage of corp members that actually remain in the states of their posting? Must be very negligible, from my own personal acquaitances.
