House of Reps members to Jonathan: Our summon is constitutional and you have to come

President Goodluck Jonathan
The House of Representatives is constitutionally empowered to summon anybody including the President, therefore, no court of law can take away that power, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, Zakari Mohammed, has said.

Reacting to some media reports yesterday that handlers of President Goodluck Jonathan were contemplating dragging the House to court for summoning the president to brief it in closed door over the spate of insecurity in the country, Mohammed insisted that the parliament has not gone outside the law.
“We are not acting ultra-vires. He (President Jonathan) may think that we are interpreting the constitution to suit us but the court will interpret what is in the constitution which is that we have the powers under section 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution as amended. We have not gone outside the law and the constitution to summon the president,” he said.

Yesterday, some national dailies (not Daily Trust) have reported that Jonathan’s aides have advised him to go to court to stop the House summon.

Constitutionally or not the president of Nigeria attention is needed in the house of representative to answer some questions that is not understandable to Nigerians.

If Jonathan Ebele Goodluck knows that his conscience is clear, he should go and meet with the senators and answer whatever question they want to ask him…

I did not bye the idael of his aid that asked him to go to court with the house of representative.
