Wreckage of the Dana Airline plane crash in Lagos State, Nigeria
The black box of the ill fated aircraft belonging to Dana Airline will leave the country for the United States of American Thursday for proper analysis on the cause of the crash.
The reason was that the country lacks adequate laboratory to perform such task.
Also, Federal Government has ordered an up to date audit review of all airlines in the country as part of measures to forestall future occurrence.
To this end, a nine-man Technical and Administrative Review Panel headed by Group Captain John Obakpolor (rtd) was set up on Wednesday.
Other members of the panel are – Captain Austin Omame, Capt Dele Sasegbon, Dr. O.B Aliu, Engr. F.C Onyeyiri, Capt. Mfon Udom, Capt. Muhtar Usman, Dr. Tony Anuforom and Capt. A. Mshelia.
It also assured that unlike the previous reports, the outcome of this panel‘s activities will be made public.
Meanwhile, the federal government has assured that air transport still remains the safest mode of transportation despite the unfortunate incident; even as it noted that the occurrence has nothing to do with the country’s air safety net.
The scope of work for the panel includes the immediate comprehensive assessment of all the domestic airlines.
The panel is also mandated to make bold recommendations to the federal government on actions that will need to be taken to improve the overall safety net of aviation sector.
In addition, the panel is expected to assess the financial status of airlines that are operating within Nigeria.
Briefing newsmen immediately after the special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, held in memory of the crash victims, the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, said the committee which has six months to complete its work was expected to come up with a comprehensive report on each of the country’s airlines.
On the area of regulation, she said Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority will be strengthened.
