Pictures from the Peaceful protest Hundreds of Niger Delta youths under the aegis of Coalition of Niger Delta Youths for Good Governance (CNDYGG) from all across the Niger-Delta states yesterday throng the streets of Warri, Delta state in a massive Nonviolent protest, demanding the immediate sack and removal of the Niger Delta Minister, Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe whom the youths described as highly corrupt and a commonwealth thief.

The youths who adorned red T-shirts with the inscription “RED ALERT! RESIGN NOW ORUBEBE, NIGER DELTA MINISTRY STINKS” chanted Orubebe must go and other ‘alutarised’ songs as they marched the streets of Warri with banners and placards with inscriptions such as “Orubebe you are a betrayer,” You can never be Delta state Governor,” This is not the Niger Delta Ministry we asked for,” You are a monster and not a minister,” “You are commonwealth thief”, amongst others.

Making a public statement to the mammoth crowd at the PTI Junction in Warri, the highly respected Delta born Niger Delta youth activist, Comrade Rex Ekiugbo Anighoro who was the convener of the coalition stated that available facts to him shows that over Two hundred billion Naira has been appropriated to the Niger Delta Ministry under the leadership of Elder Orubebe since the year 2010 when he was appointed but regretted that there was absolutely nothing to show for the huge funds allocation. He maintained that the East-West road has become a death trap claiming the lives of loved ones daily, yet Orubebe and his Ministry do not care about the need to urgently see to the complete construction of that highly economic road; always giving lame duck excuses at every opportunity and disingenuously asserting about completion of projects that are totally nonexistent.

“We challenge him and his ministry to a public debate or to a town hall meeting anywhere for them to demonstrate what they have achieved and what they are doing, henceforth we shall hold all our representatives to account, no matter who they are.” he said.

He called on Mr. President to disassociate himself from all corrupt and non performing ministers who hail from the region in his cabinet, urging him to sack them as Niger Deltans and indeed Nigerians are getting too agitated at the failure of his Ministers to meet public expectations, this he claims was indicting his Presidency as the buck stops at the President’s table. He noted that with one year already gone in his four year term Presidency, Nigerians expect much more and will demand much more.

Declaring their unflinching support for Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidency and wishing him a happy one year anniversary as the elected President of Nigeria, Comrade Rex Anighoro who is also the Spokesman to the Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari led Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front (NDPSF) stated that the youths of the Niger- Delta were solidly behind Mr. President and will continually constructively engage him so as to ensure that Mr. President provides good governance and social justice to Nigerians. He however warned that keeping the likes of Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe whom the youths have passed a vote of no confidence on and have considered a misfit can evaporate continued support. He maintained that the hard earned gains of the Niger Delta people’s struggle for Self-determination, development, resource ownership, and supremacy of the will of the people can be reversed and eroded by reactionaries such as Orubebe.

In an interview session with members of the Press, Comrade Rex Anighoro who has been on a self imposed exile from Delta state and who was so glad to be in Warri after several months, stated that Orubebe was a betrayer of the Niger Delta people, who has not impacted the lives of the youths of Niger Delta in anyway,” It is a monumental travesty and an odious oddity for Orubebe to remain a revered Minister especially as he is the one representing my state in the Federal cabinet. “He is another high profile symbol of high scale commonwealth banditry, stealing so much money in order to use such monies to fund his Delta state governorship ambition, we assure him that he will surely fail and will fail woefully in his bid if he dares to contest for the office of Delta state Governor, we await him, ” he said. He reiterated that there was no difference between a Mandate Thief and a Commonwealth Thief. “Enough is Enough, Orubebe must go! ” he exclaimed.

Other youth leaders such as Comrade Osaro Iyamu, representing Edo youths alongside Comrade Sincopere Graham Abulu, representing Ijaw youths, Comrade Edmund Atakurievwe representing Urhobo youths, Comrade Austin Osagu, director of operations of the coalition amongst other youth leaders endorsed the statement made by Comrade Rex Ekiugbo Anighoro and vowed to storm Abuja shortly in total resistance. They stated that they would never give up the struggle until their demand is acceded to.
