The CPC and the PDP disagrees on the performance record of the Goodluck Jonathan administration

The opposition Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), has described the past one year of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as a “tale of dismal failure.”

The party said this on Sunday in a quick reaction to an earlier statement by the ruling People’s Democratic Party ahead of the May 29 Democracy Day anniversary on Tuesday.

“Beyond the grandstanding and abundant rhetoric of the government, there is nothing worthy of note that the administration of Jonathan has done to improve the infrastructural development, education, security and economy of the Nigerian State,” the CPC said.

The CPC criticised the administration for failing in all aspects of governance in Nigeria.

“The regime has proven to be adept in making vain electoral promises,” the opposition party said. “Succinctly put, the Jonathan’s administration in the last one year has been a sordid tale in gross incompetence.”

Right on course

The PDP however disagrees with the opposition saying President Jonathan’s “transformation agenda” was on course.

“A year on, we are right on course!” the party said.

“When in 1999, Nigerians entrusted our great party with the leadership of the nation, we promised to re-build Nigeria based on the ideology established by our founding fathers,” Olisa Metuh, the party’s spokesperson said.

“Since then, the PDP has made significant progress in returning the country to the path of sustainable development and steady economic growth as a basis to stabilize and consolidate our democracy.”

The PDP said its governments at federal, states and local council levels, have carried out far-reaching reforms in the various sectors of the economy.

Sustainable middle class

The party said its is determined to transfer wealth to the masses and establish a strong and sustainable middle class as defined in its ideology.

It called for patience saying “nowhere in the world has true democracy and economic transformation evolved overnight; it takes time, sacrifice and patience.”

The ruling party said it needs the cooperation of the opposition and Nigerians to achieves its plans for Nigerians.

“This transition time for the nation, is not the time to walk on political divide and demonize the ruling party, the PDP,” Mr Metuh said.
