Mr. Eyo Ekpo, NERC Commissioner for Marketing, Competition and Rates, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that billing under the new tariff regime would be based on locations because tariff clarifications had shown the energy consumption differed from locations.
Ekpo said that the current poor supply of electricity would be a thing of the past with the numerous power projects embarked upon by the Federal Government.
He said that efforts were on to shore-up transparency in the billing system through a massive metering programme to be undertaken by distribution companies.
Ekpo said that a Metering Requirement Committee was currently going around the country.
“We promise to implement its report on what can be done to enhance transparency in billing and metering across the country.
“We are committed to ensuring that the new tariff regime thrives in an environment of greater transparency and accountability by all parties,’’ he said.
Ekpo urged Nigerians to appreciate the current administration’s commitment to turn around the power sector.
He promised that consumers would see positive shift in electricity generation, distribution and service delivery in future.
NAN reports that the new electricity tariff regime will begin on June 1.
