A Picture of the Bombed Hotel
Former Militants undergoing rehabilitation and training under the Federal Government of Nigeria Amnesty Programme bombed a hotel on Monday that had served as their temporary home since last year. The hotel is located in Osubi, Okpe Local Government area, Delta State, Nigeria.
The former Militants said the reason behind the bombing was an alleged collusion between the consultant representing the Federal Government of Nigeria and the management of the Hotel in order to stop them from receiving their entitlements.
The management of the hotel and a source close to the Consultant, Generic College, described the accusation as unfounded.
Investigation revealed that the Former Militants were not interested in undergoing rehabilitation nor lodging at the hotel but clearly wanted the cash budgeted for their care. In addition, investigation revealed that the Former Militants and the Consultant had been in a continuous dispute for some months.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Tsafe, Director of Nigeria State Police (State Security Service) in Delta State, and Ughelli and Warri, Delta State Area Commanders of Police visited the location of the bombing on Monday.
The Joint Task Force on the Niger-Delta, Anti-Terrorism Squad, and Anti-Bomb Squad were said to have arrested some individuals.
It can be noted that a section of the Hotel building collapsed as a result of the bombing.
An Official of the Hotel stated, “I got a report at about 4.00 am on Monday that the hotel was collapsing and rushed down to the hotel, only to find the ex-militants in a “war” mood.”
