A Judge at the National Industrial Court ruled in favour of President Goodluck Jonathan’s petition calling for the joint Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) strike and Mass Protest scheduled for Monday, January 9th, 2012 to be stopped.
Justice Babatunde Adejuwon stated, “Economic activities within the country will be adversely affected, as will the health and safety of the citizenry, if the impending strike is allowed to hold,”
The Nigeria Labor Congress responded to the ruling, it stated, “There is no going back on next week’s protests and shutdown,”
President of the Trade Union Congress, Peter Esele stated in response to the ruling, “I haven’t seen the ruling of the court, we will respond after we study what’s happening,”
Seun Kuti, Son of Afrobeat Legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, stated on friday evening, January 6, 2012 via twitter, “I just spoke with Femi Falana & am happy 2 inform u all that NLC is going ahead with d strike! #occupy Nigeria!!!”
