A group called “NaijaCyberHactivists” hacked the websites of two Government agenices in Nigeria for a couple of hours in protest of a move, that may see the Nigerian Government censoring the internet usage of Nigerians. The names of the agencies hacked are: the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).
The mission statement of the activist group as expressed on the homepage of the EFCC website is OPERATION: #SayNoToInternetCensorship. The group went further to make this statement on the homepage of the EFCC website: “”It is clear that the government takes us for fools.
It is clear that they would rather block all chance of expression of the african youth’s aspirations for change,” “Any effort made to Censor the Internet will therefore result to a state of war between NaijaCyberHactivists (with well meaning Nigerians on our side) and the Nigerian Government should they find themselves so inclined to impose censorship upon the Internet” “We are the Internet. Expect Us!””
It can be noted that Nigerian youths have been vehemently voicing their aspirations for a change in the affairs of Nigeria over social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter. The featured picture of this News update is a copy of the picture pasted on the homepage of the EFCC website by the group. What are you thinking?
