Buhari vs Jonathan judgement still pending

Lawyers of the presidential candidates of CPC and PDP, Chief Dipo Okpeseyi (SAN) and Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), presented final arguements in a case brought before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal regarding vastly flawed April 16 Presidential Election in Nigeria. CPC is requesting the tribunal cancel election results in 20 states because of substantial non-compliance with Nigerian Electoral Laws; some of those States are: Bayelsa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Kwara, Adamawa, Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Enugu and Cross River. CPC wants the Panel to declare that President Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo are not lawfully in Office because they did not receive the majority of the votes cast in the election. Counsel to President Jonathan (PDP), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), requested the tribunal dismiss the CPC petition because it lacks substance and merit. Chief Olanipekun stated to the tribunal that the foundation, destination and cornerstone of the CPC petition crumbled with an earlier ruling by the tribunal not to order a fresh election between the CPC and PDP only and argued that the CPC petition is warrantless at this point. Chief Olanipekun further argued that evidence previously displayed by lawyers representing CPC was rejected by the Panel: During a previous hearing, CPC brought four witnesses, including an expert in Information Technology (IT); The witnesses presented oral evidence to the panel stating the 2011 Presidential election was rigged during the voter registration process and at different collation centres across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were also represented in court by their counsels, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) and Chief Amaechi Nwaiwu (SAN); Chief Awomolo and Chief Nwaiwu also urged the Panel to disregard the petitioner’s case because the petition filed before the tribunal were criminal allegations, which the tribunal has no jurisdiction over. Counsel to the CPC argued to the Panel that criminal allegations during the Presidential Election were seperated from civil allegations brought before the Panel and that the civil allegation, supported by credible evidence should lead to a judgement in favour of CPC. CPC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, his running mate, Pastor Tunde Bakare, and former FCT Minister, Malam Nasir el-Rufai were present in court on thursday. After listening to all parties, Justice Akaahs of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal stated the date of judgment would be communicated to all parties. What are you thinking?
